Roger Federer’s Wimbledon record

By Duncan Mil

July 2, 2018 - July 15, 2018 - Roger Federer is chasing a ninth men’s singles title, having set the record with eight victories in 2017. Another trophy would match the record of Martina Navratilova, who won nine women’s singles titles between 1978 and 1990.

Despite approaching his 37th birthday, Federer will still start his 20th Wimbledon as the overwhelming favourite to clinch a 21st Grand Slam.

Federer won his first Wimbledon -- and maiden Grand Slam -- in 2003. Fourteen years later, and without a win in SW19 since 2012, he clinched his eighth title beating Croatia’s Marin Cilic in a 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 face-off.

Federer also co-holds, with Björn Borg, the record for most consecutive Wimbledon victories with five: Borg between 1976 and 1980 and Federer from 2003 to 2007.
