Tesla rolls out its first production Model 3

By Duncan Mil

July 28, 2017 - The first 30 production versions of Tesla’s Model 3 all-electric sedan will be handed over on July 28. Tesla plans to build 20,000 cars a month by December and 100,000 a month by the end of 2018.

Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, led by Elon Musk, set a new record in the first quarter of 2017 by delivering 25,000 vehicles and bringing the cumulative total since the 2008 launch of the Tesla Roadster to 211,000 cars.

The 14-year-old company is now worth more than 113-year-old Ford, with a market capitalisation of $47 billion compared to Ford’s $45 billion.

If Tesla achieves Musk’s targets of 20,000 cars a month by December and then ramping up to 25,000 a week, it will build more battery-powered cars next year than all of the world’s automakers combined in 2016.
