Publisher Terms: Amendments and Notifications

In the Graphic News User Terms, Graphic News reserves the right to make reasonable amendments at any time by posting the amended terms on the Graphic News website.

Publishers shouldn’t worry that they will suddenly find themselves subject to User Terms that are unacceptable, because such changes have to be reasonable. They are also not made very often. In fact, since 1991, when the Graphic News Service started, the User Terms have only been changed three time, in 2008, in 2013 and now in 2019. These updates have been prompted by changes in technology rather than legal issues.

  • Notices: When changes are made Graphic News will notify Publishers in a number of different ways over a period of time.
    • A notice will be posted at the point of download and on the Graphic News website home page for a period of 30 days.
    • All editors receiving e-alerts will be notified.
    • All Technical Contacts appointed by a Publisher to liaise with Graphic News will be notified.
    • A notice will be sent with all invoices.
    • A notice will be sent when a Publisher is sent a copy of the latest Graphic News Archive Book.
  • Consultation: If when Publishers see what is proposed they should notify Graphic News within 30 days if any of the changes would cause a problem. Notice should be sent in writing to: Graphic News Ltd, 8 Ely Place, London EC1N 6RY. If Graphic News is unable to resolve the issue within a further 30 days, Graphic News can - at their sole discretion - either terminate the agreement with that Publisher with 90 days notice, or more likely, allow that particular Publisher to opt for the previous User terms until a solution can be found.

21 days to go until NEW GRAPHIC NEWS - a new website for a new era.

28 years ago — April 2, 1991 — the original Graphic News launched using a precursor to today’s websites that used email technology. These enabled infographics to be delivered electronically around the world over telephone lines. What was possible was very limited - It took 10 minutes for a 100K file to download.

Since then delivery speeds and website technology have moved on. The new website will offer the best online experience possible now, adding many new features (and offering new opportunities for the future), but still enabling existing users to select and download infographics and enjoy the distinct brand of visual journalism that is Graphic News.

Over the coming days I will give further information. Please contact me if you have any questions. Fiona Roberts, froberts @
