Web Apps

It is very convenient to have an App button on your mobile device to take you to your favourite web page. For this “Web Apps” can be used. Unlike the Apps that can be purchased in the Apple store, Web Apps are essentially an icon linked to a bookmark.

  • GRAPHIC NEWS WEB APPS: So that editors can link to Graphic News quickly, a web app is available. Go to the page you want to return to and direct a bookmark to your home screen. In future, if you click on the App you will be directed to that same selected page.

  • WEB APPS FOR PUBLISHED GRAPHICS such as SPORTLIVE TOURNAMENT GUIDES or LIVE ELECTION RESULTS: Publishers licensed to publish Graphic News infographics can - on the web page displaying an infographic - include a download button to give away an App so that readers can return to that page easily. They would need to add the following code into the head of the html page, and place the button (guide.png) at a suitable location. Because web apps are essentially bookmarks they therefore act as a gateway to encourage readers to return to the original website.

    <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /><!-- iOS -->
    <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="images/guide.png"/>
    <meta name="mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /><!-- Android -->
    <link rel="icon" href="images/guide.png"/>
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width">
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width">
